MORE ABOUT THIS CAMERA:  The Minolta Capios 115 (AKA Minolta Riva Zoom 115EX, Minolta Freedom Zoom Supreme, and Minolta Freedom Zoom Supreme Elite) was released in 1995 and takes some of the best landscape zoom photos we've ever seen from a point and shoot. It is a sophisticated camera with a high quality lens and quite a lot of features if you dare to explore the technical side. It will also allow you to shoot freely on the auto settings and still take excellent images if you are more inclined to just turn it on and shoot without any fiddling. It was intended towards those who were prepared to pay a little more for a camera that could handle just about any situation yet still be compact enough to carry around easily on adventures. Something we really like about this model is how there are two separate mode buttons - one is for the flash modes (auto with red-eye, flash-on, flash-off, and auto without red-eye), and the other is for the shooting modes (auto, macro, portrait, night portrait, and spot metering). The advantage of this separation is that you can control what the flash is doing regardless of which shooting mode you've selected. For example, if you are using the macro mode to take a closeup photo of a flower and you want to make sure the flash doesn't fire, you can simply turn the flash off whilst staying in macro mode. Most cameras have the flash and shooting modes combined into one 'mode' button which doesn't give you as much control as you'll get here. Another special feature you'll find on the Capios 115 is something called 'continuous-drive mode', in which the the camera takes a photo every two seconds for as long as you continue holding down the shutter-release button. This feature can be found amongst the modes on the self-timer button and looks like three photos stacked on top of each other - you'll understand when you see it - and can be a great feature for shooting an action-packed scene like live music or sports or a party or perhaps when you are meeting a celebrity and you want to get a few shots fired as quickly as possible. Whilst some may think this camera looks a bit boring it packs some pretty impressive credentials. It has a good aperture range (going as wide as f/3.5), a great shutter speed range (up to a speed of 1/500 seconds), an excellent lens and autofocus system, and plenty more attributes to ensure your images come out well in just about any circumstance. One thing it feels like Minolta forgot to add is an infinity focus mode, which is something that can come in handy when you are trying to shoot a distant image and there happens to be something in the foreground (like a window or a fence or leaves on a tree) which you want to make sure the camera doesn't accidentally focus on. But other than that little mystery we can't speak highly enough of the Capios 115 as an underrated high quality all round performer. An excellent companion for someone who loves nature and the outdoors and is looking for a camera that can take quality images and cover just about all bases.
