MORE ABOUT THIS CAMERA:  The CV35 was released by Vivitar in 1999 and designed for freedom and fun. Its most noteworthy attribute is its transparent body which came in a variety of colours - red, purple, blue, green, and clear. The other interesting thing about this camera is that it has a two-element lens (in two groups), which is a step-up from other similar plastic lens toy cameras. The in-built flash also marks a point of differentiation between the CV35 and a toy camera. These nice bits aside, the rest of the camera is very simple - both mechanically and operationally. It takes just one AA battery, the sole purpose of which is to power the flash - and the benefit to this is that the camera will still work perfectly well (minus the flash) once the battery has died (or without a battery inserted). The film confirmation window is handy too for checking whether or not a roll of film is loaded (and what type of film it is) without having to open the film door and potentially accidentally causing ruined frames. The wide-angle 27mm f/11.0 focus free plastic lens ensures dreamlike results in the photos with a lovely soft-focus feel not too dissimilar to a disposable camera. The advantage over a disposable though of course is that this camera can be loaded with film again and again, and it can handle a roll with 36 exposures (versus the standard 27 frames for a disposable camera). Whilst the CV35 is a lightweight plastic camera with a simplistic manual/mechanical design, it appears to be constructed quite well with the potential to outlast many other point and shoots. The shutter speed is fixed at 1/100 seconds, which suggests you are better off with a bit of awareness around selecting films with an appropriate ISO speed for the light in which you are shooting. As a rough rule, 100 ISO film will work well in bright sunlight, 200 ISO film will be appropriate with a touch of cloud or shade, and 400 ISO film will be the best choice for overcast days, sunsets, and at night with flash.
