MORE ABOUT THIS CAMERA:  The Kyocera Slim T is the same camera as the Yashica T4. Kyocera merged with Yashica in 1983 and produced cameras under both brand names until 2003. The Kyocera Slim T was sold to the Japanese market (released in 1992) and the Yashica T4 was sold to the rest of the world. The Slim T (or T4) is also essentially the same camera as the Yashica T5 (also known as the Yashica T4 Super), it has the same lens and specs, just a few external differences. The T4 is a famous point and shoot 35mm film camera and there's been plenty written about it - so we'll just keep it simple here and provide our honest thoughts without the hype (or hate). This model sits in a unique position between the plastic point and shoots and the premium point and shoots. There is no other plastic-bodied point and shoot that performs as well as the Yashica T4/T5. It takes seriously sharp photos and this is largely due to the Carl Zeiss Tessar T* lens. But on the other hand, there is no other premium point and shoot that has a plastic body or that has such few controls and settings. So its a strange beast, but let's address some of these points. In terms of the plastic body, we don't have much of an issue with this - the camera was built in Japan, its well made, cameras with metal bodies gain wear and tear over time as do ones with plastic bodies, we don't hear "my Slim T/T4/T5 broke because it was plastic", we just don't hear that, we don't have an issue with the plastic body - but yeah its looks aren't going to impress anyone and if you're insecure about that then yes totally go look at the other metal-bodied premium point and shoots because this camera is not for you. In terms of the lack of controls/settings, well it is what it is. It doesn't have ISO settings, it doesn't have aperture control, it doesn't have manual focus options, it doesn't even have an impressive max aperture (f/3.5), and it doesn't have exposure value control. If you are after such features you should check out the other high-end point and shoots. On the other hand, if you're not put off by the concept of a pocket sized camera (a large-ish pocket perhaps) that can take a great shot but has limited settings, then keep reading. What the T4/Slim T does offer in terms of settings/controls is red-eye reduction mode, daylight flash mode, night mode for low-light shooting with no flash, and infinity focus mode, as well as exposure/focus lock which is engaged with a half-press of the shutter (this feature is a bit sensitive and fiddly but you can get the hang of it with a bit of practice). Another great spec is that it can focus on subjects as close as 35cm away. It also has an impressive flash-reload time of 3.5 seconds and it reads DX codes from 50 to 3200 ISO. The range of the shutter speed is decent too, 1/700 to 1 sec. And the triple-beam infrared autofocus is quite an advanced system that ensures the focus doesn't miss very often. In summary, if you're after a camera that has simple settings yet takes sharp photos, we would argue that there is none better than the T4/T5.
